OK, ok, ok. So your wondering, "What did she do, take off running and forget to come back?" Sorry I haven't Blah, Blah, Blogged in a few days. Things have been kind of busy around these parts.

I took another day off on Monday. Ran 5 miles last night at sunset and another 4 this morning about 7. This morning's run was GREAT! But it's SO difficult to run at night, after you've eaten, in the heat. + I twisted my ankle! What a BUMMER. The crazy thing is that it happened on some uneven concrete down town about a mile into our run, and when it happened, my running partner said, "Are you OK?" Well, I didn't even think anything about it. It didn't really hurt when I did it. Now this is the CRAZY part -- About 2 or 3 miles later my ankle started hurting and I remember commenting to my partner a couple of times, "Boy, my ankle hurts...what's up with that?" I didn't even put the two together. How crazy is that?!? It just hurt a little then but WoW, when I got out of the shower it was REALLY starting to hurt. It ached all night. I iced it 3 times and propped it up most of the night. It kept me awake a good portion of the night. This morning though, it felt fine. So, I wrapped it and went for a run promising myself only to run if it felt good. It was GREAT the whole run, no pain at all. But, when I got back it hurt to walk on it and it feels really, really tight -- go figure. I'll look for an ankle brace today and take some Aleve, again...

I'll probably do good at this rate just to get my 25-mile base in this week. Don't want to push anything with this ankle thing.

Difficult run. Out the door at 6. Darker than usual. VERY humid! I sweat like a PIG! 5 miles. Did I say humid? VERY HUMID! Probably will have thunder storms this afternoon. Didn't sleep well last night.

Good 5-mile run. 2 miles through the park with a hyper dog. Knees a little stiff and hip joints, especially the right one, stiff. Ate a breakfast bar before the run with about 8 oz. of H2O.

SUPER GREAT run this morning. Probably the best run I've ever had. 6 miles. Felt great. Strong all the way to the end. Didn't eat any bugs. Only took a little water before the run. Out the door at 6 a.m. back by 7 or a little before. Took Aleve last night. Really helps the old joints to function better without being stiff. GREAT stuff! I'm not a pill popper but I like the freedom this stuff gives me.

HELP! I swallowed a bug! I was coughing and gagging and almost threw up... It was really, really gorse! Another reason to wear the Breath Right strips and breath through your nose!

Good 5 mile run this morning. Out the door at 6 a.m. A little warmer than it had been last week. I plan to do 5-6-5-6-5-6 this week. 5 miles today, six tomorrow and so on all the way through to Saturday. Expanding my base to 33 miles.

Took 2 Aleve after running. A little stiff. Need to stretch more!

Ran 3 miles yesterday afternoon. Difficult in the heat and with food in my belly.

THIS MORNING a PB (personal best) 5K time of 24:43. Whew.... Finally made the 25 cut! Good race on the 5th Runway at Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport but the wind was a bear, especially at the end. But I did it! OK, now to break 24...

Ran a quick 3 last night at sunset by the North 40 Park with all the baseball games going on, wonderful crisp, cool air. It was great!

Ran 7 this morning at sunrise. Good run. Very cool - in the 40s. NICE! and so unusual for this time of year.

GREAT RUN! Felt really, really good. 6 miles. New out and back part through the local cemetery. I know it sounds kind of weird to be running through a cemetery but nobody there minds a bit. (People are dying to go there you know...)  That's 23 miles for the week so far. I think I'll take tomorrow off and do 4 on Saturday. That will make a nice 27 mile for the week, a 10% gain. Next week we'll do 30.

To day is my best friend's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY best friend! Tonight, we shall celebrate!

GREAT 5-mile run with new insoles. Hoping these insoles will give some much needed new life to a well worn pair of running shoes. Never tried insoles before. I think I'm going to like them. However, one seemed more comfortable than the other. May take some adjusting. I always wear out the insides of my running shoes before the outsides wears out. Probably because I do so much of my running on the mill.

Tried on a pair of the Nike Run Free shoes yesterday. I think I'd like to own a pair but hate to sink that much $.$$ into a pair of shoes I'm not actually going to race in.

GREAT 5-mile run. Felt good. Have increased my caloric intake by 400-500 per day. Will see if this helps the fatigue factor.

Tuesday, May 02, 2006

Felt real tired yesterday afternoon and still this a.m. when I woke up. Didn't feel like getting up. Didn't feel like running. 2 miles into my run I felt GREAT! Ran 5 miles easy - only 1 1/2 at 5K pace though. The rest was an easy pace. Les I confuse you, at this point my 5K pace and marathon pace and 10K pace for that matter is all the same. It shouldn't be but that's just how it is. I want to do some speed work and get my 5K pace much faster than my 10K and/or marathon pace but at this point I am more concentrating on maintaining the pace for the long term - endurance. After the end of the year, or sometime into next year, I'll work on speed work and really trying to become competitive on the 5 and 10K levels. Right now though, I have marathon on the brain :~) I need to get that goal under my belt, then I'll move on to the other...

GREAT 5-mile run. 3 at 5K pace. A little sore towards the end of the run but felt good. Could have run much further had time allowed. Plan on running 5 for 5 days and taking 2 days off this weekend.
