6.29.06

Still 4 lbs. up. The norm for the past 3 months or so. Felt light. Maybe it's mussel weight. Good, easy 5-mile run 53:52. Varied pace, 3/4 mile hill work. Too late, too little but it's something...

BIG Tom takes his first flying lesson this a.m.

6.28.06

Up by 7 lbs. Good easy run. 6.2 miles in 66:07 -- I said EASY. Actually, I walked 1 mile. Did 1 mile of hill work. I think I'm really going to be hurting come Tuesday and the Peachtree. I haven't done any hill work in 3 - 6 months :~[ Heartbreak Hill is going to be interesting! I will taper from here to Saturday and take Sunday and probably Monday off -- we'll see about Monday. May do a light run.

6.27.06

Better run. 4-miles. 3 @ a 10-minute mile pace, 1 @ marathon pace. Marathon pace is becoming a more comfortable pace. Still up by 10 lbs. from ideal race weight.

6.26.06

Slow sluggish run. Only 3-miles. Only 1/2 mile at marathon pace. 12 lbs. up from vacation -- like carrying a gallon and 1/2 of milk :~[ Will eat light this week to drop back down to race weight by the 4th. RP60 AP121.

Tan Lines...

Well, I wondered if this could happen. I'm like the first person I've seen with a tan line from their blue tooth device. :~O

06.23.06

GREAT 3-mile run. Out the door at 5:45 a.m. Still dark. Could see the lights of the pier in the distance. Amazing I can even see that far. The pier is beautiful all lit up. Much cooler before the sun comes up. Was able to sit and watch it rise from the pier for just a while, while sipping my latte, before heading back to the resort, a nice easy 3-mile walk, quick pace. Not many people out this early, but plenty on the way back - some runners. Saw a water spout out at the horizon. Amazingly enough, considering all I have consumed, I feel relatively light -- still. A few more days of this though, and I'm sure it would catch up with me. May run again tonight at sunset. Been wanting some ice cream and there is a Cold Stone Creamery at the pier as well -- not open in the a.m. (good thing). It's just that the last time I was here and ran in the p.m. there is just a lot more rift raft out at the pier at night and there were plenty of hoots and hollers -- I don't particularly care for that! I guess in the a.m. they are still all in bed.

Went to an ice cream place a night or two ago https://www.ritters.com/index.html I thought it was GREAT! but my best friend didn't like it so much. As a matter of fact, it made his stomach hurt :~[

In my haste to pack for the trip I threw in a smaller bottle of contact solution and a new contact case only to find out when I arrived that that contact case ALREADY had a pair of contacts in it. So, all week I've been dealing with this one contact case and two pairs of contacts. Fortunately, there is enough difference between the two not to be a BIG problem. I guess if a couple were wanting to pack really, really light they could share a contact case, if they both wore contacts. However, I don't recommend it.

Well, no run this a.m. My calfs are sore and my sunburn hurts and I'm tired :~] I'm taking the day off.

Great 3-mile run to the Starbucks. Filled up with a Vinti, decaf, quad, non-fat latte.

Sunburned

Oh yeah, today I got sunburned. I can't figure how this happened since I spent the day under an umbrella. Tomorrow I'll wear a shirt. It was actually kind of chilly part of the day.

The Death of Chivalry among other things

The car we rented for the vacation only has a place to unlock it on the DRIVER'S side. So, my best friend can't unlock it on MY (the passenger's) side and open the door for me like he's used to doing. Thus-- the DEATH of Chivalry. I didn't really like the car anyway - it has a digital odometer, doesn't even have tenths -- how can I calculate the mileage for my runs? That's OK, tomorrow, we're trading it in for a MUSTANG! We're thinking about buying one, so what better way to "test drive" it before purchasing?

BTY -- We're staying another day :~)

I bought a little pack that clips on to my shorts that will hold my cell phone, ID, (Starbucks gift card), etc., etc., etc.... while I run. I figured I'd try it out down here and then use it at the Peachtree next month. Well, I used it this morning for the first time and GUESS WHAT!!!????? It like rubbed two holes in my back! I couldn't believe it! But the clips actually rubbed two holes in my back. And it HURTS! I'll have to do something different in the a.m.

Can you believe it? I only packed ONE pair of running shorts! Those people at Starbucks are going to think I've lived in this pair of running shorts for a week!

On the Beach

Well, this morning when we went out onto the beach there were no tables and chairs with umbrellas that belong to the resort to be had -- they were all taken. So, we did something we've never done before. We rented a set of chairs, small table and umbrella from one of the vendors on the beach. I read a while and then fell asleep. I didn't know it but, while I was asleep, my best friend left me there on the beach and headed back up to the room for some supplies, potty break or something. I only knew this because when I woke up he had a book he was reading that he didn't have before I fell asleep. I couldn't believe that I would be sleeping soundly enough with the pounding of the waves and the beach traffic for him to leave and me not even know it. That's kind of scary!

My HAIR

Well, the one thing I didn't pack for vacation was a brush or comb. No, I didn't forget to pack them. A brush or comb hasn't touched my hair this year. You see, back at the first of January I got it cut short and now I just run my fingers through it when I blow dry it -- no "products!"... and just use my fingers as my comb during the day should I need to. No need for a bush or comb, I just use my fingers and it is SO, SO nice! I love it!!!

Ran 3 miles in 23 minutes this a.m. to the Starbucks at the Boardwalk -- my "reward". Walked back. Had the alarm set for 5:45, wanted to see the sunrise. Stayed in bed another hour after it went off :~[ Oh well, maybe tomorrow morning...

Monday, June 19, 2006

OK, ok, ok, so the next run was NOT on the beach and I DIDN'T run on the beach tonight at sunset...

Ran 5 miles this morning on the mill and walked on the beach at sunset, maybe a mile or so.

Good run this morning. 3 miles at marathon pace.

Will run tomorrow a.m. at sunrise -- on the beach :~)

GREAT 5-mile run. 3+ miles at marathon pace. Felt great! Marathon pace is getting easier and easier. Ran some at sub marathon pace. Felt good!

Plans have changed: Sometimes you hit a bump in the road that changes your plans, sometimes a road sign, sometimes a TV news story... Yesterday a TV news story became a road sign for me. On March 25, 2007 ING will hold its inaugural GEORGIA MARATHON right here in Atlanta. I heard this for the first time yesterday on the evening news. I was so excited!

I had previously planned to run the Kiawah Island Marathon in December but now I think I'll hold off and run my FIRST marathon in March in Atlanta. What an awesome chance to be a part of the inaugural Georgia Marathon! I'm so excited. Did I already say that?

So, now I'm thinking I might do the 1/2 marathon on Thanksgiving day and then start training (if not before) for the full on March 25. It won't be as easy as Kiawah -- Kiawah is FLAT! The GEORGIA MARATHON boasts some pretty good hills. I'll have to work those into my routine somehow.

Think we (me & my running partner) might start running around the rock on Saturdays or at least one Saturday a month -- that's probably ambitious enough. (GOT to get a car with better gas mileage!) I hear it's 5 miles around the rock, don't know about any hills though -- could run UP the rock! That'd be a hill!!!

Well, guys and galls, the next time I post a run it will be at sunset on the beach :~) Aren't you jellerous?!? YES, I said jellerous! -- that's my way of saying jealous, it's sort of like Jello... Anyway...

See ya!

BIG Tom starts his flight lessons on the 26th in a Cessna 172. He should have his private pilot's license in about 5 months. Posted by Picasa
Now for 4 days I've been eating wedding cake like there is no tomorrow and I'm starting to feel it! Yesterday, I was going to be good until my best friend came home and said, "Let's make pasta salad." He makes the BEST pasta salad, you know, the multi-colored pasta, shrimp, veggies, including those sweet cherry tomatoes, red wine vinegar, etc., etc., etc... Can't give away the WHOLE recipe. He had French bread with him and that just did me in. From there it went down hill... Sari Berie's awesome chocolate chip cookies, more wedding cake...

Well, all the wedding cake is gone now so today I'LL BE GOOD. I've put on a few pounds, it would be easier to run without them. So, the next 9 days will be 20 point days + a point for every mile run. I have to weigh in a week from Thursday any how.

As for the wedding cake, well, I don't regret it at all. My mother's wedding cake is like none other. It is the most moist, richest, luscious, scrumptious cake known to man (or woman). And the icing is just perfect -- there's a secret there -- it's not too sweet and doesn't taste like Crisco either -- the whole cake is just absolutely perfect. And, I'm not prejudice! Ask anyone who's ever had her cake, they'll tell you - IT'S THE BEST! I don't get it very often so it's worth a few pounds when I do!

Excellent run. 5 miles. Got my rhythm down by mile 2. Little to no effort breathing. 1/2 marathon pace, 1/2 10-minute mile pace. Legs are a bit sore.

OK, so yesterday I go to the dentist... I walk in to the waiting room and there is only one other person waiting there -- an old man, looks like a farmer, you know, worn out old blue jeans, flannel plaid shirt
(it IS June you know), suspenders, worn out shoes... Looks kind of out of place, like maybe he should be waiting for a hair cut instead of the dentist. So I walk over to the desk to sign in and I see the name just above where I was to sign my name -- it's the old man's, and his name is "Leroy Brown". I turn and look over my shoulder at him, and immediately-- you know what's going through my head! "Well, he's BAD, BAD Leroy Brown, baddest man in the whole downtown, badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junk yard dog, yeah he's BAD, BAD Leroy Brown..." And on and on it goes -- song stuck in my head all day long. I wonder what it's like to go through life with a name like "Leroy Brown"?

What a BEAUTIFUL day! Posted by Picasa

This CRAZY Gmail

OK, so I'm at work trying to check my mail on the Mac using Netscape. What's up with this? Gmail locks up Netscape EVERY time. I'm beginning to think the "G" doesn't stand for Google after all. Maybe, just maybe it stands for GATES!

Last Friday I emailed my hubby a file from work. No, I wasn't actually "working" (on the clock) or anything – Just in the office doing some other stuff. I hit SEND and left the room. I was gone about 4 hours. I came back, shut down my laptop and went home.

To my SHOCK, when he checked his mail that night at home, some how, some way, Gmail had sent the email EIGHT TIMES!!! The emails were spaced apart some only a few minutes, some over an hour – 8 of them over the course of a 4-hour period. I wasn't even in my office during that time and neither was anyone else. How could this happen I asked myself?

And then, I was HORRIFIED to think that some of you might have received multiple emails from me at times. You probably think I'm an idiot. Well, I might be, but I'm not the only one.

I'm beginning to think that Gmail is related in some way to Microsoft. I know they are still working the bugs out – obviously, but come on… EIGHT repetitive emails when I only hit send once?!? Give me a break!

Good 5-mile run this morning. Got my rhythm early. Ran varied speeds from a slow 12-minute mile cool down to marathon pace (8.3-minute mile).

My goals for the summer (running goals that is)

1. To avoid injury
2. To maintain my 25 mile per week base -- shouldn't be a problem
3. To work up to a consistent marathon pace by the first Saturday in August.

My baby :~[ I can hardly believe it. Another chapter closed...a new one begun. This chapter will be called "The Leaving" as one by one they go off on their own. The first and the last I believe will be the most difficult with possibly only 8 years between. The next 8 years will write a chapter of sadness yet joy as they go off on their own to begin their own lives AND THEN IT'S PARTY TIME!!! Posted by Picasa
5-mile run. Moved it inside. Not very exciting. Tough actually. Didn't get my rhythm until about mile 4 -- then I ran right through the 5 mile marker -- imagin that! I like the bounce of the mill, easy on the joints. Tough on some different muscles though.

Super LAST run in the great outdoors with my running partner. 5 miles. Out the door at 6 a.m. BEAUTIFUL morning. Clear, cooler, not so humid.

Today was the BIG day and all went well. Many hands make light work. So many people helped. So many talented people shared their immense talent to pull off the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen. The Lord blessed and all went well.

We were able to take about a dozen centerpieces to the local hospital to be given to patience along with church brochures. I'm so glad the Lord gave me that idea! It was a GREAT blessing to me.

Thank you to all and good night ;-]

5 miles this morning. GREAT run. No pain in the ankle. Bought a really good stabilizing brace. I think it will be fine. Will try to run 6 tomorrow morning and 5 on the BIG day - Saturday. That will put me at 25 for the week. A good goal especially considering the ankle injury.
